Game Structure

The game starts with everyone closing their eyes. Each role in the game is announced, and then the person playing the role is tapped.

A shortened day which skips phases 2 and 3 then happens (no-one can be executed on the first day).

After this, the phases are cycled through until no townies are alive (in which case the mafia wins) or no mafia are alive (in which case the townies win).

The first 3 phases occur during the day, when everyone mostly has their eyes open, and the second 3 occur at night, when everyone mostly has their eyes closed.

Anyone who is dead may not engage in any communication relating to the game, verbal or otherwise, except when talking to the Medium during the allotted period.

If anyone wants clarification from the game master privately, they may ask during any free discussion period.

Phase 1: Free Discussion

Anyone can talk about anything, and everyone should be given a chance to speak. The only limits on discussion are:

This phase lasts as long as people have relevant things to talk about.

Phase 2: Nominations

Everyone picks one person to put on trial, by simultaneously pointing after a countdown. You do not have to pick anyone. The player with the most votes will go on trial. If no-one votes, no-one goes on trial. If there is a tie, the tied people are voted on alone. If there is still a tie, those still tied are picked between randomly (eg. coin toss).

No discussion is allowed in this phase.

Phase 3: Trial

The defendant is given up to two minutes to defend themselves. No-one else may speak during this.

After the defence, free discussion is allowed. Then, everyone closes their eyes, and raises their left hand for innocent or right hand for guilty. After a countdown, everyone opens their eyes, so everyone can see how everyone else voted. If you raise neither hand (or both!) your vote is not counted.

If there are more guilty votes than innocent votes, the defendant is executed. They are given 30s for a final speech (no discussion), and then they die. Their role is revealed.

If the defendant is not executed, and this is the first trial today, we return to phase 1.

Finally, a period of free discussion is allowed, and the day ends.

Phase 4: Night - Mafia

This is part of the night, so everyone has their eyes closed. All members of the mafia are asked to open their eyes.

They may communicate non-verbally for a short period of time (excluding dead mafia). Each living member of the mafia will then be asked to pick a target by pointing, or target no-one by shaking their head.

Phase 5: Night - Town

Each living town role which can take actions at night will be asked sequentially to open their eyes, indicate their action (eg. point at a target, nod/shake head), then close their eyes again.

Phase 6: Feedback

Each living player will be asked to open their eyes, read a short message displayed to them, then close their eyes again. For example:
